Here’s a Peek Behind the Curtain

Take a moment to see what your days could look like as a hairstyling student at La Luma Academy.

Our daily schedule looks like this:

8:30am - La Luma Academy doors open for students.

8:45am - All Students have arrived at La Luma Academy and set themselves up to start the day.

9:00am - 9:30am - The school day begins with a morning meeting, which we call a Huddle. This is an opportunity for the team to prepare itself for the day ahead.

9:30am - 4:45pm - The student body moves into their roles for the day, participating in classroom learning, independent mannequin work and providing services for Guests on the Salon Floor. The students' role and focus changes each day, providing them the opportunity to grow and build on their skills from week to week.

4:45pm - 5pm - Students work together to reset La Luma Academy for the next day. All students complete a cleaning task and ensure the building is kept clean and organized.

Your Daily Wardrobe

Students are taught the importance of dressing for success. Our Guest’s make decisions about our ability to perform hair services based on their first impression of us. When we dress as professionals, we act as professionals. The way that we put ourselves together sets the tone for how we will feel and behave throughout the day. It is important that Students style themselves to attract a range of clientele and the best way to do that is through professional attire.

Students arrive each day within La Luma Academy’s Professional Attire expectations. Clothing should be professional black attire (with an optional small splash of colour). This visually supports our focus of making the Guests the “star of the show” and positioning Stylists as supporting characters. It shows unity within our team, and distinguishes our Guests, Student Stylists and Staff Team. From a purely practical perspective, it also does a great job of hiding the inevitable - colour stains.

So what does this mean exactly? Here are some simple guidelines:

  • Clothing should be all black, but a splash of colour is welcomed. A splash of colour is less than 25% of your entire outfit (top, bottoms, shoes, etc.)

  • All skirt, dress and short lengths must be past fingertips when arms are extended down your side. Students should move around in their outfit and ensure everything stays in place.

  • No tank tops, crop tops or open back tops.

  • No denim, ripped pants, track pants, sweatpants or yoga pants.

  • Outfits should be designed to represent your personal style and your professionalism.

  • Shoes must be closed toed and comfortable to stand in throughout the day.

  • Hair must be clean and styled. No bedhead or ponytails. Remember you are in the business of promoting and selling hair, beauty and style.

  • Makeup can be clean and natural, creative and fun, or non existent.

  • All dress code is subject to the Instructor’s and Lead’s discretion.
