LA LUMA ACADEMY IS Designed to see STUDENTS SUCCEED ON THE SALON FLOOR & THRIVE IN THEIR FUTURE CAREERS

Our program is taught in 3 key ways

  • Technical Development - Taught in Systems

Students are taught all technical and business skills in systems. This allows the students to build on their knowledge easily as they gain all of their technical and business skills in the Junior Phase that are needed to work with Guests on the Salon Floor.

In the Intermediate Phase and Senior Phase, Students provide hair services for Guests on the Salon Floor. The technical and business systems learned in the classroom are applied with the support, leadership and guidance of the Salon Floor Leads. Having a strong framework builds confidence and precision, and makes any service or experience on the Salon Floor manageable.

By focusing on systems, Guests of the Salon Floor have a consistent experience each time they visit. Students learn that they have the fundamental skills to create or re-create any hairstyle, cut or colour and to respond to any customer service situation.

  • Leadership - Learning From Experience

Throughout their time at La Luma Academy, Students are taught to lead themselves, their services and their Guests. Students are provided the opportunity to lead their peers and community. Leadership is learned by taking intentional actions with consistent practice and reflecting on each situation or experience.

Learning from experience is the process of making meaning from a direct experience. At La Luma Academy, students spend 8 months on the Salon Floor providing services to Guests as a Student Stylist. During this time, the Students put their newly developed technical and business skills to practice. With the support of the Salon Floor Leads, students reflect on each service performed on the Salon Floor, looking at what worked and what didn’t, and noting learning and action steps for a future service.

At La Luma Academy, we are committed to learning from every situation and providing students with ongoing feedback and acknowledgment to support their growth. Students are taught how to clean up errors in performance or behaviour and take new actions to guarantee their success.

  • Relationships - Reflection & Self Discovery

Our Students are taught that business is a way of being. The mood and energy you show up with each day will directly impact the success of that day and the experience of the Guest. It is the relationship and the feeling that a Guest is left with that determines if they will rebook with the Stylist again. The practice of reflection and willingness to discover offers students new ideas and actions to try on that will allow them to thrive behind the chair.

Student practice being responsible for showing up to the Academy on and ready to go for the day. They are taught to take actions and build habits that support them thriving each day and delivering high end professional services. When a Student is on and ready to go, relating to the Guest feels easy. When a Student is off and overwhelmed, the Guest can feel like a problem. The more intentional a Stylist is with how they show up to their Guest, the more successful the service will be.

Students learn to relate and work with different personalities within their class and student body. The Students work with their peers as their teammates and learn to work together in the classroom and on the Salon Floor. Students practice interacting with their Instructors as though they are their employers, preparing them for their future within a professional business setting. Students practice having direct conversations, being responsible for their actions, and being accountable to their team. Students receive support, feedback, acknowledgments, and opportunities that align with their goals and dreams for their career.
